This is a big one. One of my personal crown achievements. No matter what anyone says or thinks about this, I’m proud like a peacock when it comes to this one.
I was getting more and more into digital painting. I wanted to know how experts in the field approached work, so I purchased some tutorial videos, where they go through an art piece from start to finish, allowing viewers to follow on foot. Being stubborn as I am, I wanted to give this tutorial my own flair as well, so I altered the design somewhat, giving her a different weapon. Originally she was given a two-pronged spear… I like this better.
The process is so different from what I’m used to. It also feels like there’s a higher ‘risk’, even though — as Bob Ross once said — there are no mistakes when it comes to painting.
The approach I took here did force me to kind of throw caution to the wind, and overall it was a lengthy but very rewarding process. Blending colour to make it a “seamless” whole is something I struggled with (as you can see on her leg, for example) but nothing is ever perfect on a first try (….or after a hundred tries, for that matter).
See the gallery below for the creative process behind one of my crown jewels.
‘Til next time.
