A friend who I used to work with approached me fairly out of the blue, not having spoken with him for a long time, and told me he needed help.
He had ambitions to set up a soundcloud account and start producing music. For that he needed a banner, a logo, and a name. The name he already had in mind: Loosiick. The banner and logo, on the other hand, were still very much out there.
I said I’d accept his request and started brainstorming.
The good thing about having total freedom is that you can pretty much do whatever you want. The downside to having total freedom, however, is that you have total freedom. Because you’re in such open waters it’s easy to be overwhelmed by a sense of “well, but…what do you want, though?”
The guy I worked for has a typical personality trait that reminds me a lot of myself. He’s hard to please, in the sense that he’d much rather just do everything himself, so he knows it’s good. He simply doesn’t have the expertise to do it, so he came to the guy whom he thought was closest to his own way of tackling things. As such I went through a wide variety of trial-and-error before coming to a logo I’m still very proud of.
The designs are varied. I did this on purpose. Since there was no real idea for a logo, I took three distinct ideas of my own and made mock-ups with them. I presented those and took it from there. Together we molded the whole in a direction he was comfortable with, ending up with the logo you see in the final slides in the extensive gallery below.
‘Til next time.
