Some time ago I made a banner and logo for a friend of mine who wants to get started on Soundcloud. This same person approached me again, telling me that while the logo is great, it reminds him a lot of something else (something he’s a fan of, to boot). He didn’t want this. He wanted something that, to him, felt like nothing esle. Nothing else he knew, anyways.
I scratched the back of my head, as I was quite happy with the initial logo, but…customer’s always right. “He pays, so he says.”
I immediately started thinking about ‘what does music mean? What does it represent? How do I make people think “ah, this is about music, isn’t it?”‘
What came to mind was a pair of headphones. Going with my gut, I took that to heart and made three different logos where the headphones were the focus point.
As for the banner, I went with musical notes. My buddy told me that in a way it’d be comical to show something seemingly innocent, perhaps even child-like, only to be surprised by how not child-like the content actually is.
