Naxx is one of the six main characters from my novel, as such I wanted to try and visualize her in order to help me whilst writing the story.

Cerez is a level-headed woman with an air of maturity around her.
She lost her eyes in battle long ago, but her hearing more than makes up for her visual disadvantage.

Her quarterstaff is a catalyst. Aside from sharpening her senses it also allows her to evoke elemental spells.

I wanted to give Cerez a dignified warrior-look. I ended up drawing inspiration from the oriental lifestyle, as I’ve always felt that there is a certain flair about that whole scene, if you will, that lends itself perfectly for the type of person I envision Cerez to be.

The art approach I took here came as a result of an expert I saw at work online. He started with scribbles that would only properly show a pose from a distance. A thumbnail. He made a bunch of thumbnails and picked the ones he liked best.

I took the same approach, scribbling poses and going through them by process of elimination. I am happy with the end result.

See the gallery below for the process.
(Oh, and Cerez has since undergone a name change, if you were wondering…)

‘Til next time.
